People switch smartphones all the time, often jumping between operating systems as they see fit. However, former Lifehacker editor, Adam Pash, has reported losing messages sent to him after trading his iPhone for an Android device.
Pash detailed the issue in a personal blog post, where he pointed out that text messages sent to a number associated with Apple’s iMessage would either be delivered later or lost completely. The person sending the text would see a “delivered” notification in their messaging app and have no idea that the actual message is nowhere to be seen.
This problem affects iPhone users who are sending messages to people who have stopped using iPhones, which Pash says indicates the issue is built into the infrastructure of the iOS eco-system.
It is possible to disassociate some number from iMessage by deleting the contact and then adding it back to the contacts list; although Pash points out that this solution is not practical for a large number of contacts. Pash has gone on to try out a myriad of solutions to different levels of success. If you’re having this same problem as well give this post a read.
