The Oppo R1 is only a mere four months old, but the Chinese company has seen it fit to release a refreshed edition of the mid-range smartphone, which was launched in Malaysia back in February. The primary reason for this is to add LTE connectivity to the smartphone – but the good thing is, Oppo did not stop there.
The original R1 is powered by a MediaTek MT6582 1.3GHz quad-core chipset with 1GB of RAM. The R1 also sports two high-resolution camera sensors: one 8MP f2.0 rear and one 5MP front-facing module. Rounding up the specs list is a 5-inch 720p display, 16GB of storage and a generous 2410mAh battery encased in the 7.1mm, 140g device.

As mentioned, the new R1, called the R1S, now supports LTE connectivity. To do so, Oppo has ditched the original MediaTek processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. On top of that, Oppo has also upgraded the 8MP camera to a 13MP module, while the other hardware specs should remain the same – including the well-built aluminium design.
The Oppo R1S will be launched in China on April 25, where more detailed information on the device’s hardware will be revealed. Seeing the way the company has aggressively expanded in the region, we could expect to see this smartphone coming to Malaysia in the next few months.
