S5 vs Z2 vs G Pro 2 vs Find 7

Now that the Oppo Find 7 has officially been announced, how does this Chinese flagship fare against the other mainstream major smartphone players? Let’s compare the Oppo Find 7 and Find 7a against the Samsung Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and the LG G Pro 2 – all the latest flagship smartphones announced recently at MWC 2014.

First up, let’s take a look at the two devices unveiled by Oppo earlier today. The Find 7 and Find 7a are virtually identical on the outside, with the exception of a carbon fibre-like design on the back cover on the Find 7. The differences are in the choice of hardware, as can be seen below:

As you can see, there aren’t many differences between the two variants. Crucially, the camera on both the Find 7 models are the same – meaning that you could be getting some serious value for money with the Find 7a.

But what about the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Sony Xperia Z2 or even the LG G Pro 2? These flagship smartphones were the highlights of the recent Mobile World Congress 2014, so how do they compare against this relatively unknown Chinese smartphone maker?

Here’s how the Oppo Find 7 and Find 7a compare against the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and the LG G Pro 2. Note that the better-specced option has been bolded:

As you can see, both the Oppo Find 7 and Find 7a definitely can hold their own against the other Android flagships coming soon in the market. In fact, none of the competition sports a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display that the Find 7 has, although it is still open to debate if there is any noticeable benefits of having such as sharp display.

The 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor, too, will be an interesting aspect, especially its Super Zoom feature. Whether it is merely a software gimmick or one that can rival the established PureViews and the Exmor RS sensors remains to be seen for now.

Once again, a defining factor that swings in Oppo’s favour here is with the price. The Find 7a and Find 7 will be priced at 2998 and 3498 Yuan respectively, which at the time of writing would convert to around RM1590 and RM1850. If the Find 7 is priced anywhere near these converted prices, it would mean that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would cost over RM500 more than the flagship Find 7.

With the Find 7, Oppo is ready to ditch the notion that Chinese smartphones are cheap because of their sub-par hardware or build quality. Featuring top-tier hardware and equally premium software enhancements, could we be seeing the start of a shift in power in the mobile industry?
