It looks like the world of technology is getting better catered for young children. There are gadgets made for kids (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids and Kids Mode on the Galaxy S5) and now it looks like YouTube would like to venture into that segment as well. According to multiple sources cited by The Information, it looks like YouTube will be developing a special segment for its video streaming service that is catered to children of age 10 and below.
YouTube may already have plenty of content made for kids like cartoons and even educational videos such as nursery rhymes, and there are loads of channels you could subscribe to for free, but there are several major problems, YouTube is also filled with many vulgar comments as well as contents that are potentially harmful to young children like sexually explicit and violent videos. The new YouTube for kids would offer a safer and “cleaner” site that parents could trust.
The new site is nowhere near complete, but according to the sources, an example of such usage would be parents could access a special app on a device or TV that includes only kid-safe videos. Sure, YouTube already has a safety mode but in my case, I have mine turned on and still sometimes I see YouTube suggesting me videos I rather my toddler not watch, plus, having to click into a link to see the comments is starting to get pretty annoying; a dedicated YouTube for kids would definitely be beneficial in cases like this.
How many parents here think that a YouTube specially dedicated for children is a good idea?
