While I’m pretty sure most, or at least some of you are very impressed with the Sony Xperia Z2 that was just announced at MWC 2014, how many of you are bored with the same old design that looks almost identical to the Xperia Z1? It looks like that won’t be a problem anymore because Sony might announce the next flagship smartphone – the Xperia Z3 perhaps – later this year, and it might come with a brand new design too.
Sony Mobile’s Creative Director, Director of Product Planning and UX General Manager, Yoshiro Kurozumi recently told a Japanese press, K-Tai, that he thinks that a half year upgrade cycle is the way to go in order to stay competitive in this industry. He went on saying that the Xperia Z2 will likely be the Japanese company’s flagship for only the first half of 2014. Mr. Kurozumi also mentioned that Sony does not want to rely on a single design so could we see a new flagship this year with a new design? Maybe.
No timeline has been given but judging from his words, Sony could very well be launching a new flagship sometime in September perhaps; the Sony Xperia Z1 was announced last September in IFA 2013. Would you like to see a half-year updates for flagship smartphones? For those of you who are set on buying the Z2 once it arrives in Malaysia, will you wait for another half a year to see a Z3 that would, hopefully, feature more updates like even faster processor, possibly a 2K display, a new design, better camera perhaps, more features in the Camera App, and a larger battery?
