A conversation with several Oppo staff after the launch of the Oppo N1 smartphone in Malaysia has revealed several huge plans for the company in Malaysia. The N1 may mark the coming of the Chinese giants in the country, but Oppo are already making plans several months down the pipeline – including that of its upcoming flagship device.
It should come as no surprise that Oppo is working on a new flagship smartphone. The N1 is designed to be a flagship phablet, while the company’s last “normal-sized” flagship was the Find 5, which was released back in late 2012. The company has been hinting of its upcoming flagship, the Find 7, for some time now, and even teased a series of complex number combinations that ultimately revealed the launch date of the Find 7 in China. As for its worldwide reveal, Oppo will showcase the Find 7 at next week’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Speaking with several Oppo Malaysia staff, we were told that Oppo will be pushing the Find 7 very aggressively to its established markets, including Malaysia. They even hinted that the Find 7 may be launched within two months from its MWC reveal – which should be somewhere in early April…or even late March.
As for its proprietary operating system, ColorOS, we were also told that an update to ColorOS, dubbed ColorOS 2.0, is already in the works. It will be based either on Android 4.3 or Android 4.4, and barring any delays, it will roll out to Oppo smartphone users “in the coming months”. We’ve seen a glimpse of ColorOS earlier today, and came away pretty impressed by what it’s capable of – so an update to a newer version of Android is certainly welcome.
