Nokia’s intriguing Android-powered smartphone, codenamed Normandy, may be officially unveiled at the Finnish company’s MWC press event later this month. After months of speculation and leaks, it appears the Nokia X, as it is rumoured to be officially called, is ready to be announced.
Despite already agreeing to sell off its handset division to Microsoft, the Finnish company has scheduled a media event for MWC 2014, where it is rumoured to unveil several Lumia smartphones such as the Lumia 1820, Lumia 1520V and the Lumia 1525. But the WSJ now reports that the entry-level smartphone codenamed Normandy may also be announced at the company’s MWC event.
What will be most interesting will be Nokia’s implementation of a forked version of Android. Judging from previous leaks, the forked platform looks to have a UI that is similar to Windows Phone as well as the Asha Platform. In terms of hardware, it is also highly likely that the Nokia X will be another entry-level smartphone that is on par with Nokia’s Asha series, featuring dual-SIM support, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 5MP rear camera. More importantly, it is also pretty much confirmed that Malaysia will be one of the countries where the Nokia X will be available, having entered SIRIM’s database for device certification.
