Ahead of its expected CES 2014 unveiling, Huawei’s massive Ascend Mate 2 has been pictured alongside its 2013 variant. The device will naturally boast a thinner profile from the giant that was the Ascend Mate, while packing more powerful hardware under the hood. As mentioned before, the Ascend Mate 2 will be powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core HiSilicon chip with Mali-450 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera and running on Android 4.2.2 with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top.
Surprisingly, contrary to earlier rumours, the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate 2’s display will not be upgraded to a 2013-standard Full HD display. Instead, Huawei is likely to maintain a 720p panel on the new device, making it quite a hard sell in 2014 when smaller-screen devices are already packing 2560 x 1440 displays – well, depending on how much it will retail for when it is eventually announced at next week’s CES 2014.
