Recently launched in Malaysia, the new Acer Aspire P3 is a dual-mode Windows 8 device that allows users to operate it either as a standard notebook or a tablet. This is made possible thanks to the bundled Acer Cover which is essentially a tablet cover with a built-in full size Bluetooth keyboard and a bracket to mount the Aspire P3 tablet unit.
As for the tablet unit itself, it is equipped with an 11.6-inch 1366×768 IPS display that supports up to 10 touch points simultaneously. While the Aspire P3 is available with either Hyper-Threading enabled 1.4GHz Intel Core i3-3229Y or the non-HT 1.1GHz Pentium 2129Y (both are dual-core processors), both specs comes with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 60GB solid state drive. The Intel Core i5 version which will be made available sometime this month is equipped with slightly more RAM at 4GB although the rest of the specifications are yet to be known.
Equipped with a 720p front-facing and 5-megapixels rear-facing webcams, the I/O ports on Aspire P3 are limited to a single USB 3.0 port, mini HDMI and 3.5mm audio jack. While having only a handful of I/O ports is a normal trait for majority of the tablets out there, we have to say that we prefer to have more USB ports if possible rather than lugging around a USB hub to cater for our USB gears.
The new Acer Aspire P3 is priced at RM 1,999 with Core i3 while the Pentium variant is priced at RM 1,799. Not to forget, the Core i5 will be priced at RM 2,299 once it is available in our market this month.
