In recent times, football has seen a shift with the rise of a new type of player: the “Engine”. There’s even a mathematical algorithm to back that claim – at least, that’s the thinking behind adidas’ new range of boots that the company will be launching tomorrow. The adidas Nitrocharge 1.0, as it will be called, has already been tested by some of the company’s sponsored players, and may even make its official debut during the UEFA Champions’ League final later this month.
Ahead of the launch, the company has already posted several teasers about the new Nitrocharge 1.0 boot, with YouTube teaser videos featuring Daniele De Rossi as well as a #theengine Twitter campaign that details the characteristics of the Engine player profile featuring Javi Martinez and Dani Alves.

The Nitrocharge boot will be the fourth silo in the adidas football boot range, which already includes the Predator, adiZero and adiPure range. The Nitrocharge will cater for yet another type of footballing style, and is designed to enhance players’ energy levels for a power-packed 90 minutes. Among the new technologies featured in the new adidas boot is the Hybridtouch upper, which is a combination of leather and synthetic material, and the Energysling panel on the mid-foot area – the sweet spot of most footballers. More features of the Nitrocharge boot will be announced tomorrow.
At launch, the Nitrocharge 1.0 will be available in three colours (red, blue and black) and in four stud configurations (TRX FG, XTRX SG, TRX AG and TRX HG). The sponsored players playing in this month’s Champions’ League final is rumoured to sport the red variant. Among the sponsored players switching to the Nitrocharge boot are Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez, Barcelona’s Dani Alves, AS Roma’s De Rossi, Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso as well as Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli.
