“I AM THE OTHER HALF”. What could it possibly mean? The title of Jolla’s first teaser trailer, posted on its official YouTube channel late last night probably kept many fans this side of the world awake wondering just what the teaser trailer meant. The Finnish startup has now gone full steam ahead with hyping up its first ever Jolla smartphone, and has invited members of the press to an event to be held next Monday in Helsinki, Finland for what the company is branding “Jolla Love Day”.
As soon as the invites went out (TechCrunch noted that the invite also contained the cryptic “I am the other half” message) speculation went into overdrive that Jolla’s first Sailfish smartphone that they will be announcing will be a “modular” device, with the option of adding a physical QWERTY keyboard or other accessories that the user deems a necessity for a mobile device…in other words, “the other half” – an extension to their smartphone. After all, Jolla has already confirmed that they will be opening a pre-sales campaign ahead for their first device, so a tiered payment system that rewards higher pledges with additional accessories does sound plausible.
On the other hand, with anticipation of Jolla’s Sailfish-running smartphone at an all-time high, the speculation could easily get out of hand. It may also very well be that “the other half” that the teaser is referring to is to the hardware of the first Jolla-branded smartphone, which has remained a very well-kept secret – in contrast to the Sailfish OS and its new user interface (UI) which has already been demoed to the world many times over.
Regardless, all shall be revealed next Monday. The wait for the world’s first Sailfish-running smartphone will soon be over.
