The latest 1.08 patch for Diablo III went live yesterday, which left a terrible glitch on the controversial Real Money Auction House that doubles any amount of gold in a transaction that is cancelled. The exploit allowed users to duplicate gold at a ridiculous pace, with many reported to have duplicated billions in in-game gold in a matter of minutes.
Naturally, it caused quite an uproar among honest players, with many calling for a rollback in the game servers as the game economy is now suffering from a serious case of inflation, with some items now going for double the standard prices.
In response, Blizzard has taken the gold and Real Money Auction House offline as they investigate the bug. Also, they will be taking appropriate actions against users found to have used the exploit, including “temporary locks, suspensions, and/or bans.” Finally, Blizzard has assured users that the Auction Houses will be restored once a fix has been applied.
