It is highly understandable that things are rather sizzling right now with emotions running high after what seems to be one of the hotly contested election that our beloved country has ever had. This is rather apparent on the social media space such as Facebook and Twitter with so many election-relation messages and status updates filling up the feed.
Unfortunately, some of these updates are rather offensive in nature. For example: this particular remark made by one named Saiful Bakri on Facebook. What make it more worrying is that the author of this racist post is not using his own photo as his display image. Instead, he is using one of Lowyat.NET’s writers as his display image (shown above) – specifically, yours truly.
The display image that this imposter used is actually part of the image collection that I posted on my personal Flickr account. Hence, I afraid that one might mistakenly identified me as Saiful Bakri although that is not the truth. I personally have no idea who is Saiful as well as the existence of this racist-oriented post on Facebook until one of my friends pointed it out.
While a police report has been lodged and similarly with Facebook, I still concerned about my personal safety as well as my colleagues here at Lowyat.NET together with my family members, friends or anyone that are associated to me since Saiful’s offensive status itself has went viral with more than 800 shares by the time this article is written.
Hence, we appreciate it if you are able to help up informing your contacts on your social media such as Facebook and Twitter especially if you have shared the original post by Saiful. We thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter and please, stay safe.
