While everyone was all excited about the consumer launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Malaysia, guess what happened on the internet? LivingSocial, a daily deal website, suffered a major hack, exposing over 50 million user details including names, Emails, birth dates and encrypted passwords. The hack was affected on all LivingSocial countries across the world – including Malaysia – except for Thailand, Korea, Indonesia and Philippines where the website uses a separate system.
If you’re a subscriber, you should’ve received an email prompting you to change your login details. Thankfully though, other more important information like credit card and banking details were not accessed. According to LivingSocial, the database that stores credit card information and merchants’ financial and banking information were not affected.
As usual, if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to change your password. While the stolen data may have accessed only encrypted passwords, in the email sent by LivingSocial, it is best to change those passwords as well.
