Update: Thanks @andrewkjs for the screenshot!
Calling all Maxis iPhone 5 users, it’s time for you to get really excited because this just in, Apple has just rolled out an update for all Malaysian Maxis customers, which brings LTE connectivity to the iPhone 5 that runs on 1800Mhz. As shared on our Facebook page earlier this morning, Apple also updated its iPhone and iPad LTE support page which now lists Maxis as a supported LTE network on both devices.
According to Malaysian Wireless, the update should be similar to T-Mobile iPhone 5, which enables visual voicemail, 4G network indicator, AWS LTE, AWS HSPA+ and more. Malaysian Wireless also got their hands on a set of screenshots, showing off Maxis LTE’s blazing fast speed on an iPhone 5, with speeds of up to 40+Mbps.
If you’re a Maxis iPhone 5 user, do check for an OTA update now. If you bought your set from Maxis and received a brand new Nano-SIM, do note that it is pre-LTE activated and you do not need to change your SIM card to enjoy the new connectivity.
More after the break, or visit our source links for more information. If you haven’t already, do perform an update on your Maxis iPhone 5 now or your 4th generation iPad now and let us know in the comment.

No confirmations have been given by Maxis, we’ll keep a close eye on the official news and keep you updated. Meanwhile, while LTE may be available for your Maxis iPhone, do note that LTE coverage by Maxis is still pretty limited and only available in limited areas in Klang Valley such as Cyberjaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Damansara Utama, Desa Sri Hartamas, Bandar Puchong Jaya and Bandar Sunway. Other areas that have partial coverage are SS2, Taman Paramount, Section 17 and 19 in Petaling Jaya, Plaza Damansara, Bandar Kinrara and Taman Wawasan in Puchong. According to Maxis, they will be rolling out LTE to more areas soon so don’t be too disappointed if you do not reside within the coverage area, it’s only a matter of time before you get it.
