Article continues after the break.
The Sony Alpha Experience 2013 is the latest in the series of annual workshops organized by Sony. This year’s event, themed “JOM Alpha 2013”, saw more than 600 photography enthusiasts attending the tw0-day event, which also featured guest speakers such as Michael Yamashita, Gary L. Friedman and also Melisa Teo. In addition, a selection of masterpieces from the guest speakers as well as photos from the Sony World Photography Awards 2012, as well as creative shooting opportunities for the participants. Sony also showcased the latest and greatest in their camera lineup, including the A99 and the RX1, in addition to a slew of lenses.
Also, the two new cameras were displayed. The A58 digital SLT is the latest in the A-Series family, and is targeted at those looking for a value-for-money digital SLT. The A58 actually shares similar features to some of its higher priced siblings despite being the entry-level A Series camera. It features a brand new 20.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, as well as an improved BIONZ image processing processing engine for crisp images and Full HD videos. Also, the extra-wide ISO range of 100 to 16000 and the SteadyShot INSIDE feature gives users greater confidence to shoot at slower shutter speeds.
In addition, the A58 SLT also sports a tilt-angle LCD as well as a high-resolution OLED Tru-Finder, allowing for flexible usage of the camera. There is also a high-performance 15-point autofocus system with Lock-on Autofocus and high-speed burst mode of eight frames per second, which results in crisply-focused images even if the subject is moving. Also, Auto Object Framing automatically tracks, frames and crops an image to create professional-looking compositions.
On the other hand, the new NEX-3N is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera with a large APS-C sized sensor. Featuring a 16.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, the NEX-3N also has a 180-degree flip LCD screen and a new zoom lever that allows for easier taking of self-portraits. It also has the Auto Object Framing feature for more accurate compositions. In addition, the NEX-3N also sports a wide ISO range (up to 16000) and is complemented by an evolved BIONZ image processor which uses the same area-specific noise reduction techniques found on the full-frame A99 SLT.
Both the A58 and NEX-3N will be available from April 2013 at a retail price of RM1999 and RM1799 respectively. The NEX-3N will also be available in three colours: Black, White and Pink, and comes with a SELP1650 lens. For RM200 more customers will also get a SEL55210 bundled together.
