It looks like @evleaks is on a roll today. Barely a few hours after tweeting alleged press images of the new Lumia 720 and 520, it tweeted a new photo, which it is saying to be the “new design language for the upcoming Nokia Asha”. If this proves to be true, it appears the Asha line will adopt a more N9-esque design language – which is definitely a good thing.
Hit the break for more images of the alleged new Asha design language.
Judging from the image, the new Asha design language will share the distinctive bold colours that become the norm for Nokia smartphones. The body itself appears to adopt the Lumia 820’s squared rectangle with rounded edge look. At the back, the new top-of-the-range Asha looks to have a significant bump in camera specs, with a 5MP module that is etched on an iconic N9-and-Lumia-esque camera plate. Also, it looks like interchangeable back covers are back. Taking cue of some models in the Lumia range, the new Asha line may also feature changeable covers.
Finally, on the software side of things, the UI of the new Asha looks to have had a significant makeover from last year’s Series 40 operating system. Also, we may be seeing AMOLED displays on the new Asha, whose unique low-power screen can display the time and other important information even when not in use. The low-power mode is pictured on the leaked image as well, and looks very much like the low-power screen on the Nokia N9.
Besides the large tweeted image, there is no word on when this new Asha range will be announced. The timing of the leak, though, may hint at an MWC announcement later today – which cannot come soon enough, considering the new Firefox OS and Samsung’s Rex line of feature phones look set to take a significant chunk out of Nokia’s dominance in the feature phone market.
