Lenovo, the world’s top PC maker, yesterday announced the arrival of six new mobile products in Malaysia, spearheaded by the uber-premium ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch. With a new product for all markets and price range, the company definitely is staying true to its billing.
In addition to the X1 Carbon Touch, Lenovo has also launched the hotly-anticipated Y400 and Y500 laptops gaming laptops, as well as the mainstrean Z400 and Z500 notebooks. The company also added two new ThinkPads, the ThinkPad Tablet 2 as well as the X1 Carbon Touch.

Lenovo Malaysia has finally brought the updated ThinkPad X1 Carbon, originally launched last May, with a touch screen and powered by the latest Windows 8 Pro. The X1 Carbon Touch is the top-of-the-line Ultrabook from the company, and is touted to be the lightest touch-enabled business class Ultrabook. It has a 2GHz Intel Core i7-3667U paired with 8GB of RAM. There’s also a large 256GB SSD fitted into the sexy carbon fibre chassis, which weighs only 1.55kg. Connectivity wise, there are two USB ports (1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0), an SD card reader, mini DisplayPort, and an integrated fingerprint reader. Besides WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as an optional 3G SIM slot.
The ThinkPad Tablet 2, on the other hand, offers a powerful Windows 8 experience in a business tablet. Powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 processor and 2GB of RAM, the ThinkPad Tablet 2 also runs on Windows 8 Pro. The screen on the tablet is a 10.1-inch, multi-touch IPS screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768, with an anti glare coating. Unfortunately, as with the Surface Pro, the ThinkPad Tablet 2 only has a small 64GB of flash storage. Lenovo also claims that the ThinkPad Tablet 2, which weighs 585g, can be on connected standby for up to 30 days and up to 10 hours of continuous usage. There’s also an 8MP rear camera at the back, and a 2MP module in front. Finally, there is also a keyboard dock and digitizer stylus which are optional upgrades.
On the consumer side, Lenovo has also added new models for the IdeaPad Y and Z series. The Z400 is a 14-inch 1366 x 768 notebook powered by an Intel Core i7-3632QM 2.2GHz quad-core processor and 4GB of RAM. Lenovo’s also fitted a capable NVIDIA GeForce GT645M GPU in the Z400, as well as a generous 1TB of 5400rpm SATA hard disk. Connectivity wise, there are 3 USB ports (1 USB 3.0), HDMI, and a DVD drive.
The Z500, on the other hand, offers a lower-end Intel Core i5-3230M dual-core 2.6GHz processor, but with the same amount of RAM, hard disk space, as well as similar NVIDIA GPU as the Z400. It will also offer the same set of connectivity options as the Z400. However, the Z500 has a larger 15.6-inch screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution.
What’s more interesting will be the new additions to the IdeaPad Y Series lineup. Featuring hot-swappable GPUs, the Y400 and Y500 notebooks instantly transforms into powerful gaming machines clad in a handsome carbon fibre-like design. Both Windows 8 laptops are fitted with an Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT650M GPU, 500GB 5400rpm SATA hard disk, and red backlit keyboard. Connectivity wise, they will feature three USB ports (2 USB 3.0), HDMI port, JBL stereo speakers and a DVD drive. The Y400 sports a 14-inch 1366 x 768 LED screen, while the Y500 has a 15.6-inch Full HD LED screen. The main attraction of the Y400 and Y500, of course, is the option of removing the DVD drive and hot-swapping an external NVIDIA GT650M GPU, enabling the Y400 and Y500 into a powerful gaming laptop with an SLI array that is rated to be as powerful as a single GeForce GTX670M GPU.
Availability:
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch will be available from the middle of next month, at a retail price of RM7369. It will also come with three years of on-site warranty. Similarly, the ThinkPad Tablet 2 will also be available in the middle of next month, but will only have a 1-year international warranty. It will retail for RM2158 without the optional accessories. Both devices will only be available in matte black.
On the other hand, the Lenovo Z400 will be available at the beginning of next month, at a retail price of RM2699. It will be available in three funky colours: Pink, Dark Chocolate and Blue. The Z500 is actually available now, at a retail price of RM2299. However, the Z500 will only be available in White. Both the Z400 and will have two years international warranty as standard.
Finally, both the Y400 and Y500 are available now with two years international warranty, at a retail price of RM2799 and RM3799 respectively. The external NVIDIA GPU will be available at selected Lenovo outlets, with the expected retail price to be around RM500.
