Seems like JJ Abrams is on a roll. The executive producer famous for movies such as “Cloverfield” and “Super 8” as well as the epic series “Lost”, “Fringe” and “Alias”, is in talks with Valve over a potential movie based on either “Half-Life” or “Portal”. At the DICE 2013 Summit in Las Vegas late last night, the producer for the next Star Wars and Star Trek movie took to the stage with Valve co-founder Gabe Newell for a “recapitulation of a series of conversations” that took place previously between the two.
Later, Abrams revealed that plans for the movie are “as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets“, where talks are already at an advanced stage between the two.
Regardless, a movie based on two of Valve’s best games and produced by an industry legend seems to be a really good idea, even if the genre has its fair share of failures. But, with “Half-Life 3” nowhere in sight, a “Half-Life” movie may just be the next best thing.
What do you think? Would you prefer a “Half-Life” or “Portal” movie?
