Renowned makers of hard disk drives Western Digital took to CES 2013 its latest releases in storage solutions: the WD Black Hybrid disk drives. Made for portable devices like laptops and Ultrabooks, the drives feature a thickness of only 5mm for the 500GB version. The WD Hybrid Black hybrid drives come in two flavours: 500GB and 1TB (though in a slightly thicker 7mm frame). Both drives feature 24GB of NAND memory, though the company expects the cache to increase to 32GB in future releases.
Unfortunately, Western Digital did not reveal specific pricing and availability for consumers, except that they should be available within six months. The company spokesman did mention that the drives are already being shipped to OEMs, meaning that we may just be seeing these drives in high-end Ultrabooks and hybrids soon.
