Samsung has just announced the world’s largest 4K/Ultra HD TV at the ongoing CES 2013. At 85 inches across, the Samsung UN85S9 is as large as the name is a mouthful. Interestingly, the UN85S9 is only one inch larger than the other Ultra HD TVs being showcased at CES, with LG and Toshiba both showing off their 84-inch Ultra HD TVs (Sony had launched its 84-inch UHDTV back in August), but what separates Samsung’s mammoth TV is the very interesting design approach.
The UN85S9 “floats” on the hinges of a metal frame that surrounds it – similar to blackboards of old. There’s another supporting metal frame at the back, and both frames allow the TV to be tilted to the front and back. It really is a design unlike other TVs in the market. And, the frame also houses a 120-watt 2.2 speaker system, making the design just as practical.
The Samsung UN85S9 is also powered by a 1.35GHz A15 quad core processor that powers the TV’s Smart Hub, S Recommendation and voice control software. There’s also room for four HDMI inputs. The TV will be released in March, although no price has been announced.
