Last week, Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google wrote an article in his Google+ page teaching users how to switch to Android from an iPhone. He mentioned that that many of his iPhone friends are converting to an Android and how an iPhone will switch to Android and “never switch back” but it looks like his theory might not apply for tablet users. Over Black Friday last week in the U.S., both the iPad mini and iPad Air were the top sellers in Walmart and Target and 40% of the buyers were Android smartphone users.
According to a survey done on 125,000 shoppers, the 16GB iPad mini was top seller at Walmart, 16GB iPad Air at Target, and 32GB Microsoft Surface RT at Best Buy. But not everyone goes after the latest and greatest, the 2nd hottest item in Best Buy is the 16GB iPad 2 followed by the 16GB Amazon Kindle Fire. The breakdown of the top 5 spots on the 3 stores are as shown in the image above.
According to InfoScout who did the survey, those using an Android smartphone made 40% of the Apple iPad buyers. Could it be because iOS is a better operating system for a tablet form factor compared to Android? More information about the survey available in InfoScout.
Speaking of iPad Air and the Retina iPad mini, it looks like they might arrive in our shores as early as this Thursday, 5 December 2013. senQ’s Facebook page just teased a “best year end gift for you or your loved one” that will be arriving on the said date, the latest Apple iPad perhaps?
