It appears that HTC’s flagship smartphone for 2014 sounds just like every other flagship smartphone that was released this year. The unnamed device, on paper at least, sounds decidedly like a late-2013 flagship.
Codenamed M8 (the previous flagship HTC One was codenamed M7), HTC’s next flagship smartphone is rumoured to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 5-inch, Full HD display and will be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat. It is also reported that HTC is working for an “early 2014” release for the M8. If you’re wondering how it’ll look like, the M8’s chassis was also leaked some weeks earlier, hinting at a HTC One-like design.
The bad news is, every other major smartphone vendor already has a 5-inch monster Android smartphone. Samsung’s got the Galaxy S4 (and the more powerful Galaxy Note 3), and Sony’s also got the impressive Xperia Z1. By the time HTC releases the M8, Samsung’s already reportedly ready to release a flagship with a 64-bit processor. For a company struggling to keep up, HTC needs a lot more than the M8 – especially if these rumours turn out to be true.
