While a certain HTC smartphone proved strong enough to stop a bullet, saving its owner’s life, everybody’s favourite “tough phones” brand, Nokia, seems have an equally strong response: a (non-water-resistant) Lumia 800 that survived at the bottom of a lake for three and a half months.
Sure, it definitely isn’t as catchy as the bullet-stopping prowess of a HTC Evo 3D or the company’s own X2 feature phone, nor will it outlive the Nokia 3310 myth, but the story of Roger Nilsson from Sweden does deserve some mention – and again, a testament to Nokia’s outstanding quality of its products.
The device in question, a white Lumia 800 belonging to Nilsson’s friend, fell off a cliff and into one of Sweden’s largest lakes, and was only recovered three and a half months later. After a six-hour cleanup session and four days on a radiator, the device was plugged in to charge, and miraculously powered up, with almost every aspect of the device in working condition.
Unfortunately, neither Nilsson nor his friend received a “Glad Your Phone is OK” package from Nokia – possibly because the device in question is still working!
