While the Samsung Galaxy Gear may be the trending topic for smartwatches these days, many would also remember that Sony announced its second iteration of the Sony SmartWatch series at the end of June. The Sony SmartWatch 2 was announced globally in Shanghai at the same time as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and it was rumoured that it will be available in Malaysia at the end of September.
Well, that didn’t happen, but Sony Malaysia’s Online Store now has a listing for the new SmartWatch 2. It will be available in two variants: the black metal strap variant will retail for RM850, while the standard rubber strap version will cost RM780. Both variants will sport the same set of hardware, with a 1.6-inch 220 x 176 LCD display, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC and compatibility for most Android smartphones.
We’ve approached a Sony exec for more information, and will update the post accordingly.
