Take that, LG. Just as LG announced that its first smartphone featuring a curved OLED display will debut this month, a Samsung executive has confirmed that its much-rumoured limited edition Galaxy Note 3 with its own curved OLED screen will debut as early as next week.
Rumours of a Samsung smartphone with a curved OLED display is nothing new. The Youm display technology by Samsung was announced earlier this year at CES 2013, and just last week, CNET noted that the Korean giants are working on a limited-edition Galaxy Note 3 Active, complete with a waterproof chassis and unbreakable curved OLED display.
The biggest challenge for both companies, of course, is down to costs. Both the LG and Samsung curved display smartphones will reportedly be produced in very low quantities, as operating costs for mass-production of the displays are still too high, as revealed by a Samsung Malaysia Electronics executive I spoke to recently.
