Happily using your Gmail on your Android device and enjoying all the new features that were brought to you in last week’s update? Well, it looks like your ad-free experience on Gmail for Android might be over soon. According to AndroidPolice who went through the APK on Gmail for Android version 4.6, there are multiple references to the word “ad” within the code, hinting that Google might be introducing advertisements to its Gmail app soon.
There’s no saying how the ads will be shown, if it’ll be those typical mobile ads or will appear more naturally within your mail like ads on Gmail for web, but according to the code, it looks like you might be able to “save ads as message” or dismiss them.
On top of ads, Gmail for Android 4.6 also comes with several new features such as “unsent messages warning in Sent”, slightly changed UI icons, a missing “cancel” button (use the back button instead), and more. Visit AndroidPolice to find out more.
