Happy Birthday Google! Google is celebrating its 15th birthday today and in conjunction with a big milestone, the internet giant is allowing you to search like it’s 1998. All you have to do is visit the good old Google.com and search for “Google in 1998”, and your search page will be transformed into how it looked 15 years ago when the company was first launched. Do you feel old already?
Besides taking you back in time with its search engine, Google also rolled out several new mobile features, as well as a better search algorithm to make it quicker and easier to search for things on the internet. First up, Google will soon roll out an update to its iOS app, giving iOS users some much needed features that are found on the Android version like push notifications, the ability to look at maps directly within the app and even save reminders for you.
As for Android users, Google has added in a better conversation experience so you can ask Google follow-up questions without having to repeat yourself. Google also gave its mobile search engine a makeover, allowing it to show cards and details from its Knowledge Graph.
At the same time, Google also introduced the “Hummingbird”, a new search algorithm that has been rolled out for about a month now. Hummingbird will have a better method in ranking search results and does a much better job at handling long, complex questions.
That is definitely a long list of improvements to celebrate its 15 years of success. Happy Birthday Google!
