Along with the Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone and the QX smartphone camera lenses announcement last night, Sony also introduced some new camcorders and cameras, including this HD action cam, the HDR-AS30V. Designed for the active individuals who are always on the go, it features a very compact design (25% smaller and 35% lighter than the previous generation action cam) that fits snuggly and comfortably onto a helmet.
The Action Cam features Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS connectivity, allowing users to immediately capture sharp 11.9MP still images or Full HD videos and share them out instantly. The Action Cam also features back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor to capture more lights into its footage, record Full HD 1080 60p/50/ and 1080 30p/25/ for fast-moving action, STD HD and VGA videos, as well as slow-motion modes for tracking a golf swing or BMX flip – HD SLOW 2x (1280 x 720 60p) and HD SLOW 4x (1280 x 720 120p).
Other features include ultra-wide angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 170 degree field of view, Sony SteadyShot on board, expandable memory via Memory Stick Micro and MicroSD, built-in stereo microphone, HDMI output, Sony One Touch sharing via NFC, and Sony PlayMemories Mobile application.
Finally, along with the Action Cam, sony also introduced an optional wearable Live-View remote, a waterproof accessory that can be strapped onto your wrist so you can control the camera nd monitor shots. Other accessories include new mounts like a Universal Head Mount Kit, Chest Mount Harness and a Roll Bar Mount. The Action Cam is expected to head the shelves by the end of the month for USD$299.99.
