A study conducted by researchers at Queen Mary University of London and University College London has discovered that playing Starcraft affects a subject’s ability to adjust their thinking to meet changing situations. Anyone who actually plays Starcraft knows that the amount of micromanagement that goes on in that game is not for the faint of heart.
Another interesting fact is that the pool of participants was entirely female. If only because nobody could find guys who played computer games for less than two hours a day.
Participants were assigned to play different games (Starcraft and The Sims 2) for an hour a day for a month before being evaluated on several tests. Overall, those that played Starcraft were able to process information and make decisions faster than those who were stuck with the life-simulator.
In other words, keep playing RTS games. It’ll make you smarter and better equipped to face the fast moving modern world.
