Warner Bros. Pictures has finally ended speculation on who will be playing the next Batman, with Ben Affleck confirmed to take on the role of the caped crusader in Zack Snyder’s 2015 sequel for “Man of Steel”. After Christian Bale confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as the Dark Knight after “The Dark Knight Rises”, the entertainment rumour mills went into overdrive in its speculation of the next silver screen Batman, linking a variety of actors from Ryan Gosling to Orlando Bloom. With the announcement, Affleck will certainly be held under greater scrutiny, especially after Bale’s accomplished performance in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.
Perhaps more pertinent is the fact that the “Man of Steel” sequel, slated for a July 17, 2015 launch, will see director Zack Snyder giving an entirely new storyline and vision for the movie, which will bring two of DC Comics’ most iconic characters into one movie. In its statement, Warner Bros. Pictures mentioned that Snyder will also “create an entirely new incarnation of the character”, which may mean that the gruff voice change whenever Christian Bale switches from Bruce Wayne to Batman may not be around to be the butt of jokes come 2015.
