It’s been a good few months since Google acquired Waze and it looks like they already have some pretty interesting things going on. Google recently announced that Google Maps for iOS and Android will include some of the most interesting features in Waze like accidents, constructions, road closures and other incidents reported by Waze users.
The incident reports will be visible under the traffic tab but don’t be too happy yet though, it’s limited to several locations as of now and no, Malaysia is not in the list – the incident report feature can be found for users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, U.K. and U.S.. As for things over at Waze, Google also announced that Waze app now supports Google search, and Waze map editors will have access to Google Street View and satellite imagery.
This is just the start, in an interview between Google and AllThingsD, Brian McClendon, VP of Google Maps, they are cross-pollinating as much as possible, while trying to maintain the differences between each app. As a loyal Google Maps user, it definitely is nice to see Google integrating some Waze features into it, now, if only they will bring it over to Malaysia sooner.
