Last year, Ikea introduced a new method for you to read their catalog by launching an Augmented Reality app for you to have an extended view of the physical catalog. This year, Ikea has taken a step further with its AR functionality to allows you to see how selected furniture will look like in your house without actually buying it or moving things around.
The app, available on both Android and iOS platform, will superimpose one of the 90 AR-enabled product pages in the app. All you need to do is scan the item, place the Ikea catalog on the floor, point your device at it and virtual version of the furniture will load up.
Unfortunately though, the 2014 Ikea catalog is not available in Malaysia yet so we can’t try it out, but it sure does look fun, especially if you plan on revamping your house and are not sure of what looks good where. Let’s just hope that Ikea will add in more AR–enabled furniture in the future. Check out a promo video below.
Check out the App Store or Play Store to download the app now, and wait for the catalog to reach your house. According to the schedule listed by Ikea, the Ikea 2014 catalog is scheduled on 29 August 2013.
