Frankly speaking, there is always a great pool of competitive gaming a.k.a eSports athletes in Malaysia although they are rarely highlighted in mainstream media. One recent example is Chew Hoe Sheng who represented our country in FIFA 2013 at the recent Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) 2013 – a sanctioned event under Olympic Council of Asia – in Korea whereby eSports was one of the category featured there.
Fondly known as Vin (his game nick) among local competitive gaming enthusiasts and fans, his AIMAG 2013 campaign was rather flawless up till the semi-final stage whereby he was defeated at the hand of Uzbekistan’s representative. Nevertheless, he then managed to overcome Iran’s representative in the bronze medal decider match which become one of two medals that Malaysian contingent managed to grab at AIMAG 2013.
The bronze medal at AIMAG 2013 is hardly his first international achievement though as he was also the champion of WCG Asian Championship 2012. Of course, not to forget his other achievements in the numerous local grassroots and national level tournaments throughout years of his involvement in FIFA and the game’s MMO variant, FIFA Online.
Freshly out of team after a surprise departure from Realistic Ballers clan shortly before AIMAG 2013 takes place, current rumors (yup, there is such thing as gossip in eSports) stated that Vin will be joining a newly formed eSports organization very soon. Hence, we believe there are still more victories to come from Vin.
