Looks like the leaks and rumours were true, after all. HTC has just took the wraps off its latest smartphone, the HTC One max. Touted as a “super-sized” smartphone, the One max increases the new One family to three, including the original HTC One and the One Mini.
As the largest smartphone in the HTC One series, the One max certainly packs plenty under the hood. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, the One max also sports a large 5.9-inch Full HD display. Besides that, there’s also a generous 3300mAh non-removable battery powering the device, as well as the BoomSound dual front facing speakers. The HTC One max also retains the same UltraPixel rear camera as found on the HTC One, while in front there is a wide-angle 2.1MP front-facing camera.

One of the main differences to the One max’s chassis is a removable back cover. HTC has decided to move away from the gorgeous aluminium unibody of the HTC One in favour of a combination of a polycarbonate chassis with metal back cover – which is also now user-removable. There’s also a microSD card slot, supporting up to 64GB of additional storage on top of the 16GB or 32GB options. If that’s still not enough, HTC will also provide 50GB of free Google Drive storage for two years with every HTC One max.
The HTC One max also comes shipped with the new HTC Sense 5.5 UI. It’s an incremental update to HTC’s Android UI skin, and features a few new additions to the Sense experience. For example, BlinkFeed is now a lot more customisable in terms of content, and there is now integration with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram as well as Google+. In addition, there are some new features to the UltraPixel camera in the One max. Dual Capture mode, first seen in the Samsung Galaxy S4, also makes an appearance here.
Finally, there is the new Fingerprint Scan feature. Unlike Apple’s iPhone 5s, which has its Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated to its home screen, the fingerprint scanner on the HTC One max is placed just under the UltraPixel camera. Users can use the fingerprint scanner to lock or unlock the screen, as well as quickly launch up to three apps assigned to three different fingers.
The HTC One max will currently only be available in Glacial Silver, and will begin rolling out worldwide from mid- to end-October. It is rumoured that the phablet will make its way to Malaysia sometime in November, though the pricing both internationally and locally has not yet been announced.
Alongside the HTC One max, HTC also announced several new and existing accessories that will be compatible with the HTC One max, such as the new Power Flip Case and the BoomBass speaker cube.
