While this is rather weird occurrence since there is no official announcement by Nokia, it has come to our knowledge that the Nokia Music app for Lumia devices is now usable in Malaysia. For those who are not familiar with it, Nokia Music for Lumia provide free music streaming through its Mix Radio functionality together with the ability to purchase songs via its built-in Music Store (not to be confused with Windows Phone’s own Xbox Music Store).
Before this, both of these features are not accessible in Malaysia and only allow users to playback their own music files that already been saved into their Lumia device even though users changed the region of their device. Further proof that Nokia Music for Lumia now supports Malaysian users is the availability of Malaysian-oriented playlists in the Local Mixes section of the app’s Mix Radio which features local artists.
Although it seems like Nokia still have not set up pricings for the songs in the app’s built-in music store, we still able to purchase a song through the app successfully without any hiccups. In addition to that, the company also have yet to set any pricing for Nokia Music+ which is a subscription-based upgrade that provides additional features to the app.
There is only one catch though: users still have to download the app from Windows Phone Apps Store in other region such as Singapore or United States where the service was readily available for quite some time. Nevertheless, let’s hope that the support for Malaysian users on the Nokia Music app for Lumia is permanent and not an accidental activation or a test run by the Finnish company.
Meanwhile, we have reached out to Nokia Malaysia to obtain official statement regarding Nokia Music status in our market. So, stay tuned.
