While Oakley is more known for its sporty range of eyewear, the brand does occasionally produce high tech products such as the Thump in 2004 which were essentially sunglasses with built-in MP3 player. This time around, the company has introduced the new Radar Pace sunglasses which was developed with the help of Intel.
The Radar Pace in general performs as a dynamic coaching system that based on data collected by sensors built directly into the eyewear such as gyroscope, accelerometer, and barometer. It also supports external ANT+ or Bluetooth-based fitness sensors such as heart rate monitor, footpod, and cycling power meter.
Combined with training program that can be set through Radar Pace app, the eyewear is also able to provide real-time statistics on users’ performance through natural voice interaction. Made possible by Intel Real Speech technology, all users need to do is just ask for them since the Radar Pace is equipped with microphone and it will respond accordingly to the question.
With a battery life of up to six hours, users still need to bring their own smartphone during workout though since they still need to rely on the smartphone app to operate Radar Pace. On another hand, this also allows users to answer calls and listen to music through the eyewear’s detachable ear booms.
Designed to be water resistant, each set of Radar Pace comes with Oakley’s own Prizm Road and clear lenses as well as carrying case, micro bag, aero clip, multiple size nose pads, and extra ear buds. In terms of pricing, the Radar Pace can now be obtained in North America, Australia, and Europe for USD 449 (about RM 1,859) although no release and pricing information for Malaysia is available for the time being.
