Perhaps one of the least surprising and most leaked devices ahead of IFA 2013 was the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. Packing a 1.63inch AMOLED Touchscreen at 320×320 resolution, built in camera and over 70 apps at launch, this is the first piece of wearable tech from the Korean manufacturers. One of the strange things that I can find no legal use for is the 1.9MP strap mounted camera that is designed to take low-res photos and 720p video.
The Galaxy Gear also has 70 3rd party software partners on launch and you’re not just limited to the standard Samsung suite of apps. Applications ranging from things like Evernote and LINE to fitness apps like runkeeper are all going to be available with Galaxy Gear support when it is released on the 25th of this month. The Gear will serve as a companion device to your phone giving you access to features like Find My Device, a pedometer and even S Voice.
Hardware wise the Galaxy Gear is powered by an 800MHz processor and has a 315mAh battery which should give a day of normal use. There will also be built in mics, speakers, accelerometer & gyroscope, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Unfortunately we have no local pricing at the moment and we will give you more details and a hands on as soon as we can!
