Fresh from welcoming Spotify and Deezer into the music streaming services in Malaysia, the country now has a third service making its debut. Rdio, the increasingly popular digital music service that was launched in 2010, is now available in Malaysia and Hong Kong, marking the service’s first foray into Asia.
With a music library of over 20 million songs, Rdio – founded by the co-creator of Skype – offers ad-free music streaming and lets users create playlists. Users can also log in to Rdio with their Facebook accounts, letting their friends find out their recent activity on Rdio. Also, Rdio has mobile apps for iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7, letting users listen to their playlists on the go. Further, the mobile apps sync to a Wi-Fi network whenever possible to reduce data costs or when they are not in mobile range.
Interestingly, Rdio also offers two modes of subscriptions: Web and Unlimited. Web subscriptions, at RM9.90 a month, only allow users to stream music from the desktop or web browsers, while Unlimited subscriptions, which costs RM14.90 a month, allow for web and mobile streaming. With the announcement, Rdio is also offering six months of free music to new users who sign up, letting them enjoy a limited number of ad-free music streaming each month. Users will also receive a free 14-day trial of Rdio Unlimited, which will then revert to Rdio Free when the period ends.
