Sony Malaysia has today announced three new smartphones for the Malaysian market. Expanding the company’s 2013 smartphone portfolio are the new Sony Xperia SP and the Xperia E and E Dual.
The Sony Xperia SP is Sony’s latest mid-range Android smartphone, and its design takes after the two flagship Xperia smartphones launched earlier this year, the Xperia Z and ZL. Featuring a body frame that is precision crafted from co-moulded aluminium, the Xperia SP also sports the same iconic power button as the Xperia Z and ZL. Announced only last month, the Xperia SP features a super-bright 4.6-inch HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. Powering the Xperia SP is a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro 1.7GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage as well as NFC connectivity. Sony also equipped the Xperia SP with an 8MP rear camera with the Exmor RS sensor and a VGA front-facing module.
Keeping the smartphone going is a large 2370mAh battery, and battery life on the SP can be further enhanced with the Battery STAMINA mode. Interestingly, the Xperia SP also has 4G LTE capabilities, making it one of the few smartphones in the market to be LTE-enabled. And, at a retail price of RM1299, it is also the cheapest LTE smartphone in the Malaysian market.
In addition, Sony also announced the single- and dual-SIM variants of the Xperia E. Aimed at first-time smartphone users, the Xperia E sports a 3.5-inch 320 x 480 TFT display and powered by a Snapdragon Cortex A5 1GHz processor paired with 512MB of RAM. There’s also a 3.2MP rear camera, but no front-facing ones. In addition, the Xperia E sports HD Voice and noise cancellation technology for crystal clear voice calls, as well as a STAMINA mode-like feature which cuts off WiFi and mobile data connections when the screen is in sleep mode. There’s also the xLOUD and 3D surround sound enhancements, as well as wireless DLNA technology for easy content sharing.
The Sony Xperia SP, Xperia E and E Dual will be available from April 26th onwards at retail prices of RM1299, RM499 and RM559 respectively. The Xperia SP and E will be available in black, white and red colourways, while the Xperia E Dual will be available in black and gold. Also, the Xperia SP and E will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, while the Android 4.0-running Xperia E Dual will see an Android 4.1 upgrade at an unspecified date.
