April Fool’s Day: Google Introduces Google Nose and Gmail Blue

Google is clearly not done with the April Fool’s Day prank announcements. Earlier today it announced that its video uploading site YouTube will no longer accept new video uploads, as well as adding a Treasure Mode to Google Maps. Now, the company has just announced two new enhancements to its products.

The first is Google Nose Beta, which Google calls the new “scentsation” in search. With over 15 million scentibytes of Aromabase, you can now search for “wet dog” and know what it smells like. Heck, Google knows (Nose?) what success smells like too! Go ahead, search for it on Google. Don’t worry, Safe Search is enabled here as well.

How does it work? According to the video above, Google Nose works by “intersecting photons with infrasound waves, Google Nose Beta temporarily aligns molecules to emulate a particular scent”. Google Nose Beta also works on Android with Google Now, but take note – it is still in beta, so Google Nose may not work.

Next up, Google has also taken a subtle jab at Microsoft by introducing Gmail Blue. True to its name, Gmail Blue revolutionizes email once more. The idea for Gmail Blue, according to Google, existed even during the conception of Gmail but back then, the technology “was simply not there”. It took six years to finally develop the technology for Gmail Blue. In addition, Gmail Blue is also Google’s answer “to completely redesign and recreate something while keeping it exactly the same.” Oxymoronic? Perhaps, but Gmail Blue does exactly what is described. Find out how in the video below.
