Earlier today, Nokia Malaysia has announced that the Portico update for Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 will be available to users starting from this Saturday, 30 March owners through manual update at Nokia Care Centres and selected Nokia Stores. Obviously, we feel that it such a huge hassle for consumers which is why we contacted Nokia Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia to request for further explanations.
Soon after, a representative from Nokia Malaysia responded and shed some lights on the matter. Apparently, Nokia Malaysia is not able to push the update to users via on-the-air (OTA) method as the company originally intended due to problems within their server. Hence, the OTA schedule has now been pushed to mid-April in which will be made available to users that opt not to manually update their devices at Nokia Care Centres or Nokia Stores.
Additionally, we were also made to understand that there will be loaner devices on standby at those locations in case if there is any unexpected situation happens to one’s Lumia 920 or 820 during the update process.
All in all, we still stand by our opinion that having consumers to go to Nokia Care Centres and Nokia Stores just to update their Lumias is still a hassle since there are only a handful of them around the country but at least now we know that Nokia Malaysia is still committed in deploying the update via OTA method. We just hope that Nokia will not miss its schedule this time around.
