Facebook has been on a roll lately, significantly changing and improving its service with new features such as the revamped news feed and redesigned timelines on profile pages – both of which will soon be implemented for all users. Now, the company has turned their attention to popular Profile pages as well as Pages with more than 10000 fans.
Similar to comments plug-ins from blogs and major online publications, popular Profiles and Pages now have the option to reply directly to comments on a post, creating a conversation thread of sorts within the post. Previously, to respond to a thread, Page admins would have to tag the person who commented in their reply. To prevent clutter, comments with more than one reply will be collapsible.
In addition, Facebook will add an algorithm that will “bump” active conversations within a post. It works in tandem with the earlier conversation thread feature, where comments with higher engagement will be sorted higher up the original post. Also, comments with a greater number of likes are also given consideration in the new algorithm. On the other hand, comments marked as spam will drop lower down the comments list, and the company has also mentioned users who frequently spam will automatically have their comments “down-ranked”.
However, these features will not work on mobile versions of Facebook, and will only be implemented Facebook-wide in July. Those who cannot wait can opt in from March 25.
