Sony Announces the Xperia L

Sony has taken the wraps off the new Xperia L, its mid-range entry to the Xperia lineup for 2013. Succeeding the Xperia U, the Xperia L receives a significant spec bump from 2012’s mid-range entry, with a larger screen and better camera.

Featuring a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM, the Xperia L also sports a 4.3-inch 480 x 854 TFT screen. Inside, there’s a rather economical 8GB of flash storage, but the Xperia L also has a microSD card slot. In addition, the Xperia L is equipped with an 8MP camera with the Exmor RS sensor found in the flagship Xperia Z, which, among others, allows for HDR video recording capability.

Connectivity wise, the Xperia L pretty well-equipped – but there is no LTE support, which is unsurprising for a mid-range device. There’s also NFC which supports one-touch pairing with Sony’s range of accessories.

However, the key pulling factor for the Xperia L will definitely be in its design. The Xperia L has design elements from the Xperia Arc, Xperia S and the new Xperia Z, where there is a sloping arc at the back, and also has the iconic power button on the right side of the device. There’s also a dedicated camera button, while the back cover is made from matte plastic. Adding rigidity to the device is a shiny metal frame, and the screen is made from scratch-resistant glass. In addition, the bottom of the Xperia L features a strip of LED lights, which allows for some cool illuminations found on the Xperia S.

Finally, the powerful Stamina Mode is also present here on the Xperia L, which together with the 1900mAh battery should provide for above average battery life on the device.

The Xperia L will be available in Q2 of this year in three colours (white, black, red) and will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Pricing details have not been revealed, however.
