Update: Infinity has reached out to us to clarify some “misunderstandings spread between blogs”. Infinity did not design the new Huawei Ascend P2, nor were they behind the E-Series as reported by ZDNet. On the other hand, their stable of clients does include Nokia, Huawei as well as others such as BMW. The company operates in North America, China and Europe. The original post has been updated accordingly.

Finland’s leading design agency, Infinity (formerly known as Provoke) have been working with promising mobile startups Jolla on designing Jolla’s first Sailfish OS-based smartphone. Infinity’s extensive experience and know-how in the field of mobile electronics played a crucial role in being approached by Jolla to design their first device. Interestingly, both companies have been working together for the past six months.

While the news doesn’t come as anything groundbreaking, the timing of the announcement is rather interesting. Given that they have been working together for the past six months with nary a word from either side, this announcement suggests that the first Sailfish smartphone is just around the corner.

If so, it looks like the hardware aspect of Jolla’s first device is all but ready, following the earlier agreement with chipmakers ST-Ericsson stating that their NovaThor chipsets supports Sailfish OS. All that remains is the ongoing process of further software development for Sailfish, after the release of the Sailfish SDK. Jolla CEO Marc Dillon expects the first Jolla smartphone to be launched in the second half of this year.
