Finnish mobile start-ups Jolla, who are developing its MeeGo-based Sailfish mobile operating system, have released the alpha version of its software development kit (SDK) at the ongoing Mobile World Congress. While still a long way from public release, the Sailfish OS website has now been updated to carry new information regarding the SDK, as well as the promising platform’s design principles and navigation architecture to allow developers and enthusiasts to have a feel for the user experience, and for application development.
Currently, the SDK is only available for download on Linux (32-bit and 64-bit), but Mac OS X and Windows versions are in the pipeline. Response for the SDK, based on the Qt framework and Sailfish Silica API documentation, has been particularly good among ex-MeeGo community developers, who in particular praised the Silica components.
Head on to the Sailfish OS website here to find out more about developing for the platform.
