adidas posted a teaser video over the weekend on its YouTube channel, with rather bold claims of “a revolution in running”. The video teases the company’s new midsole compound, called BOOST, and is set to feature in its new running shoe called the adidas Energy Boost which will be released on February 27.
The BOOST compound is made from thermoplastic beads fused together. As shown in the video, the compound delivers superior energy return than traditional EVA midsole compounds. According to Runner’s World Magazine, which will publish a review of the Energy Boost shoe in its March edition, the compound possesses “industry-leading energy return” and bests almost 800 other shoes that the magazine has tested on energy return. The magazine also found that the BOOST compound is almost unaffected by temperature swings, which affects typical foams which get harder at cold temperatures and softer in warm temperatures.
A quick check on adidas’ social networks also reveal more teaser images on the BOOST technology, including the Energy Boost shoe. Interestingly, adidas Malaysia’s Facebook page shows off an image of the BOOST compound with a 15 February “save the date“, which is different compared to the adidas international Facebook page, which marked 27 February. Until then, have a look at the teaser video above, and let us know what you think!
