Look at what Facebook decided to grant last week – Graph Search. The week before, Facebook introduced its brand new search features that make it easier for you to search for very specific things within Facebook like pictures you’ve liked before, restaurants near you and such.
With Graph Search activated, the entire top menu will be changed, you’ll see a bigger menu bar on the top, you can perform search on the left side while all the buttons like friend requests, messages and notifications will be shifted to the right. You can start searching for people, places and things right away, or you can use Facebook’s autocomplete for some ideas on what to search on. I have to admit, the temptation to search for naughty things is hard to resist; simply key in a word and Facebook will suggest to you what to search, like these for example.
Places
Ever had trouble thinking of what to eat for your lunch or dinner? Simply search for restaurants or café nearby your location and viola! Facebook has the result for you; you can even refine your search results. I searched for cafés near Mid Valley and was allowed to select cafés liked by certain friends, have been visited by certain friends and such.
Similarly, you can use Graph Search to look for other places such as hotels. Sure, Google does the same thing too, but you can locate places that your friends have visited and/or liked before, i.e. “My friends who have visited hotels in Bangkok, Thailand my friends like”.
Photos
Ever needed to find pictures that you’ve liked before? How about those you liked in 2010? Or photos your friends took at the next holiday destination you have planned, all you need to do is ask Graph Search and you get your answers.
As with looking for places, you can filter by photos of a certain person, location, date taken, liked by and even commented on by a certain someone.
Interest
Search for people or friends who shares similar interests with you like a sports activity, a music genre, or even something more specific like “People who likes Lowyat.NET” and you’ll get your answers. You can even find people/friends or a certain group of people who’ve liked some pages on Facebook, what easier way to stalk find new friends?
I have to say, Graph Search is pretty fun; the things you can find are endless. Of course, like I said before, you’d better beef up your privacy settings because the things other people can search for are endless too. It’s the perfect stalking tool for users because you can look for almost every single thing you want about a person like the places the person has been to, where he lives, where he’s been to before, pictures of him, and so many, it’s pretty scary.
Graph Search will be rolled out to users very slowly, if you would like to be one of the first to get your hands on it, you can sign up over at Facebook. Have fun.
