Samsung’s ads for its mobile devices usually take a jab at their undisputed rival, Apple and its millions of devoted fans. Like the previous two efforts (here and here), the plot usually centres around a long line of customers lining up in front of an Apple store only to see someone walking past using a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, and ends with the tagline “the next big thing is already here”.
In its latest effort, the company has shifted its focus to the business-oriented user – an area that is BlackBerry’s forte. Although the BlackBerry name is not mentioned, the ad pokes fun of the supposedly primitive BB users who, among other things, have a secondary phone for personal use and prefer to not mix business and fun on the same device. Samsung also makes mention of its SAFE (Samsung Approved for Enterprise) technology, which is the company’s enterprise-level security for its devices.
While ads making fun of the competition isn’t new, Samsung’s aim at BlackBerry is an interesting development. As BlackBerry 10 nears its launch date, generating impressive interest in the company, it appears even the industry leaders are starting to take notice.
