When you think of a device equipped with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and powered by Android 4.0 ICS, the first thing that comes to mind would be a entry-level smartphone. But Dacor’s here to change all that, with the announcement of the Discovery Wall Oven. Yup, it’s an oven powered by Android. There’s a 7-inch LCD touchscreen above the oven door that allows users to navigate the Discovery IQ cooking app, which contains interactive cooking guides and recipes, and even lets users program the oven to cook food remotely over another Android device, and alerts you via on-screen notifications or text message when the meal is done.
Best of all, Dacor was also proud to announce that the UI overlay was a design collaboration with BMW’s DesignworksUSA. The company will also be working on an iOS app to pair with the Discovery Wall Oven when it launches later this summer. Finally, the Discovery Wall Oven will be available as a single or double unit at a kingly RRP of $4499 and $7499 (around RM13860 and RM23100).
